We are delighted to be taking part in England’s la We are delighted to be taking part in England’s largest festival of history and culture with two Heritage Open Days taking place 2-5pm today and tomorrow (16th & 17th September). This is an opportunity to visit Fursdon and many other historic properties across England, with free access to the House* & Garden. Walter Fursdon first arrived here back in 1259 during the reign of Henry III. The original building is suggested to have been a traditional three room cross-passage house, built in cob and typical of rural Devon.Over the years the house has evolved, with successive generations of Fursdons living here as stewards through Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, Drake’s defeat of The Spanish Armada and many other milestone historic events!Since opening to the public in 1979, the Fursdons have continued to live here and manage the house, garden and wider land, with a focus on environmental and agricultural stewardship and conservation of the historic buildings and small collection of family costumes and artefacts. We are grateful to our small but brilliant team of part-time staff, tour guides and helpers who help to keep Fursdon going!Today and tomorrow mark the last two days of our open season before we close for winter. We hope that some of you will be able to visit 😃* Please note that House Tours are now fully booked, but garden entry is free with no booking required, and our lovely tea room will be open too 🍰 ☕️ #heritageopendays #livinghistory #englishheritage #conservation #visitmiddevon
