A few years back, we had the excitement of a film crew at Fursdon, filming scenes for the independent feature film ‘Shalborne’.
Written and directed by Caroline Corrie, this period drama is set in 1905 in rural Devon and tells the story of Helen, a woman ahead of her time.
The film was made on a shoestring budget and was an enormous labour of love for Caroline, who also made all the costumes for the film, starred as Helen and produced it all as well!
It was exciting to have a film crew here and a real insight into what goes on behind the scenes of a movie.
On several occasions, we felt we had gone back in time, with the sight of a chamber maid running across the lawn and ladies and gentlemen in traditional dress of the late 19th/early 20th century wandering around the library and dining room.
At one point, a horse drawn carriage drew up outside the front door, bringing to life an old photo we have of this happening for real over 120 years ago!
Until the end of August, visitors can see costumes from the film in the flesh as part of a special display in Fursdon’s family museum, included on a guided house tour.
We are delighted to report that Caroline has recently scooped Best Foreign Film at The Female Eye Film Festival in Toronto for Shalborne, which we can’t wait to see.
The film will be released in cinemas in Devon this autumn. See if you can spot Fursdon!
